Kyoto - Denhichi Sushi at Kitano-Hakubaicho

We were quite pleased to find a local sushi store that doesn't break the bank! Denhichi Sushi serves over 30 different sets during lunch time. Located in Kitano-Hakubaicho, it is a great venue for lunch before (or after) visiting the Golden Pavilion.



Randen is a type of train that connects Arashiyama (嵐山) and Kitano-Hakubaicho (北野白梅町). The single journey cost 210 yen and took 29 minutes. It is a convenient way to visit the Golden Pavilion after you've finished your visit at Arashiyama.



It's almost lunch time when we arrived at Kitano-Hakubaicho. We had a quick look around and found a little shop that says "Denhichi Sushi". It is an old style Japanese building.



We followed a few locals and entered the shop.



Immediately we were warmly welcomed by the sushi master.

The menu consists of many set choices, ranging from 580 yen to 1980 yen. You can just point at the picture at the menu to order a particular sushi set.



I ordered a tempura set with sushi, 924 yen (including tax). The fried shrimp is crispy and not greasy. Salad was fresh and the sushi was good. Fried chicken was quite delicious. My mom was very satisfied with the food.



Overall, Denhichi Sushi is a good deal. You can enjoy the sushi experience for less than 1000 yen. There are around 30 different set combination to chose from. A sashimi set is also available for those who are on low-carb diet. I would definitely recommend this place to everyone visiting Kitano-Hakubaicho!
